Cason, Central men stun Coe in overtime

Dutch pick up crucial victory on the road

CEDAR RAPIDS — A steal and 3-pointer at the buzzer from freshman Kyle Cason (Grimes, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) gave the Central College men's basketball a huge road win at Coe College Wednesday night.

The lead changed between the Dutch and Kohawks eight times over the course of 45 minutes. The two squads were tied 18 different times as well.

Coe was taking the ball out of bounds on its own baseline with four seconds remaining in overtime when an errant pass was tracked down by Kyle Cason (freshman, Grimes, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) at midcourt. Cason took wo dribbles and hit a one-footed, fading away 3-pointer to win the game in overtime.

Cason led the Dutch with 24 points, 13 of those points coming in the final two minutes of regulation and overtime. Anthony Gott (sophomore, Davenport, North Scott HS had 22 points before fouling out with three minutes left in regulation. Anthony Gott (sophomore, Davenport, North Scott HS and Owen Schipper (sophomore, Waukee) both added 18. Schipper had another double-double with 14 rebounds.

After leading much of the first half, Central found itself down seven points with 8:07 remaining in the second half. A Thomsen 3-pointer, two Cason free throws and a Thomsen layup saw the Dutch tie it up at 63-63 just over a minute later. The Dutch withstood a 48-point second half by the Kohawks.
