Central sweeps Grinnell for eighth straight volleyball win

Dutch record 15 service aces and eight blocks

PELLA — The hot streak continued for the Central College volleyball team with a Friday night sweep of Grinnell College.

The Dutch (13-5) took care of the Pioneers (5-10) in straight sets 25-16, 25-16, 25-21 for the team's eighth in a row.

"We executed well defensively against some specific scenarios and were again fairly balanced offensively," coach Jeanne Czipri said.

Outside hitter Leslie Snow (senior, Olivia, Minn., BOLD HS) had nine kills, a team-high 15 digs and a season-high seven service aces. Outside hitter Rachel Bowers (sophomore, Orion, Ill.) and middle hitter Maelyn Wainwright (sophomore, West Liberty) each had seven kills.

Middle hitter Kaitlyn Mumm (junior, Waukee, Des Moines Christian HS) had four blocks and four kills. Defensive specialist Alexis Crowley (freshman, Romeoville, Ill.) added four service aces and libero Colleen Kenney (senior, Taylor Ridge, Ill., Rock Island Alleman HS) had three. Setter Makayla Ribble (senior, Iowa City) led the team with 16 assists.

Hitting the road for its next American Rivers Conference match, the Dutch are at Simpson College for a 6 p.m. contest Wednesday.

"We're eager to get back to work and prep for a solid Simpson team next week," Czipri said. "Hopefully we will have some Dutch make the trip to Indianola to cheer us on!"
