PELLA — The Central College women's soccer team started their week off with a home win against Grinnell College Tuesday.
Central (5-1-1) struck early with a goal scored by
Olivia DeVos (sophomore, Altoona, Iowa, Southeast Polk HS) at the 19:45 mark. This would end up being the only goal of the game, as the Dutch hung on to win 1-0. This was DeVos' third goal of the season, and it was assisted by fellow sophomore
Kylie Bloomstrom (Forest Lake, Minn.).
"It's always a good battle against Grinnell," coach
Mike Kobylinski said. "We feel we put ourselves in position to score a few more but the goalkeeper made some very nice saves."
It was an impressive defensive performance from the Dutch, who allowed zero shots on goal and only two shots in total over the course of the 90-minute match. This made the job a whole lot easier for goalie
Zoey Sizemore (junior, Omaha, Neb.), who went the whole game without even having an opportunity for a save.
"In the end, we will take another win to put us at 5-1-1 as we head into league play," Kobylinski said. "I'm very proud to have such a well balanced team, which showed on the score sheet today."
Central got back to their winning ways just in time for conference play, which starts on Saturday, September 27. It's homecoming weekend for Central, and the Dutch will be hosting the University of Dubuque with a game start of 12:30.
