Central takes split in opening volleyball twinbill

Dutch rally to defeat Scots

PELLA — The Central College volleyball team recovered from a 3-1 loss in its first match to Carroll University (Wis.) to take down Macalaster College (Minn.) 3-1 in the second match at the Central-Grinnell Invitational Friday night.
           
The second match also started slow for the Dutch (1-1), who dropped the first set 25-13 against the Scots (0-2). Central rallied for a 13-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19 win.
           
Leslie Snow (senior, Olivia, Minn., BOLD HS) led the offensive attack with 15 kills, trailed by Kaitlyn Mumm's (junior, Waukee, Des Moines Christian HS) 13 kills and Makayla Ribble's (senior, Iowa City) 10. Ribble also had 18 assists for a double-double to go with five service aces.  Colleen Kenney (senior, Taylor Ridge, Ill., Rock Island Alleman HS), Alexis Crowley (freshman, Romeoville, Ill.) and Landry Pacha (junior, Wellman, Mid-Prairie HS) all had 14 digs
           
In the 11-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-17 loss to the Pioneers, Snow and Paige Sexton (junior, Sheridan, Ill., Serena) had nine kills apiece. Kenney had 14 digs, Mumm had five service aces and five blocks.
           
Central plays Calvin University (Mich.) at 11 a.m. and Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) at 1 p.m. to wrap up the Central-Grinnell Invitational.
