Academic awards aplenty for Central track and field teams

Another big year of scholastic honors for Dutch programs

PELLA—The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its postseason academic accolades Monday and the Central College men's and women's track and field teams earned the All- Academic Team honors and 20 individual student-athletes in earning academic honors.

The Dutch women earned a team grade point average of 3.592, securing the team award for the 10th consecutive year and 18th time overall. The men topped the 3.100 standard for the fourth time at 3.352.

Eleven Central men and nine Dutch women were recognized for the individual award. To qualify, an athlete must post a minimum 3.30 GPA and qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship, finish the regular season ranked in the top 50 in an individual event or in the top 35 in a relay event.

Five of the Dutch women's selections are three-time honorees. Six Central men and two women picked up their second honor.

Central's women's program has had 65 athletes gain USTFCCCA all-academic honors 123 times. Central's men have had 55 athletes win the award 90 times.
