Dutch track & field teams jump into national top 25

Central men No. 10, Dutch women No. 19

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA — The Central College men's and women's track & field teams reaped the benefits of a successful weekend by climbing into the top 25 of the USTFCCCA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Team Rating Index released Wednesday.

Points in the National Team Rating Index are based off placement in the National Descending Order Lists. The higher an athlete sits on the top-50 list, the more points he or she adds to his or her team's total. These points do not reflect placement or scoring at the NCAA Championships but are to show the individuals and teams that have the best chances at scoring well at said meet.

The Dutch men jumped up 16 spots to No. 10 this week after having seven new entries into the top-50 list, including three in the top 10. Kale Hobart (sophomore, Mason City) and Reid Pakkebier (senior, Cedar Rapids, Kennedy HS) are now No. 2 (6,922 points) and No. 9 (6,492 points) in the decathlon, respectively. Jack Brown (sophomore, Norwalk) also comes in at No. 7 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:57.83).

Central's women's team improved by 29 spots to No. 19 with six new marks in the top 50. Olivia Bohlen (sophomore, Belle Plaine), moved up to No. 3 in the heptathlon (5,045 points) and Peyton Steffen (junior, Marion) is No. 4 the 1,500 meters (4:27.48)

Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) is No. 1 in the women's national list and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse leads the men's list.

Central is split between the Drake Relays in Des Moines and the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola this week.
