STORM LAKE— The Central College men's tennis team held Buena Vista University to only 14 games won in the 12 sets in the singles matches during a 7-0-win Tuesday.
"We played really well, despite the three-hour bus ride," said assistant coach
Jackson Lewton. "We looked good across the board."
The Dutch earned the doubles point sweeping the matches.
AJ Wilkins (senior, Grinnell) and Ayden Fletcher (senior, Waukee) at No. 1 and
Jack Briggs (freshman, Pella) and
Benny Ramker (freshman, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock HS) at No. 2 both won their matches 6-0.
Alex Slaymaker (sophomore, Geneseo, Ill.) and
Travis Subbert (sophomore, McKinney, Texas, North HS) completed the weep winning 6-4 at No. 3.
Fletcher stayed undefeated on the day winning 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Briggs won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2. Wilkins and Slaymaker both won 6-1, 6-0 at Nos. 3 and 5. Ramker won his match 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 and Subbert won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.
"Wilkins played really good tennis in both of his matches and Travis finished up his match strong," Lewton said.
The Dutch will finish off their regular season Friday when they play two matches in Dubuque. The squad will take on the University of Dubuque at 10 a.m. and Loras College at 4 p.m.
