PELLA— After shattering a 21-year-old school heptathlon record, Central College's
Olivia Bohlen (junior, Belle Plaine) was named the American Rivers Female Athlete of the Week.
Fellow multi-eventer
Kale Hobart (sophomore, Mason City) was tabbed as the conference men's field event athlete of the week.
Bohlen racked up 5,045 points in winning the John Green Combined Events at Doane University (Neb.) last Thursday. That eclipsed the mark of 4,943 established by 2004 NCAA Division III champion Raegan Schultz and third in Division III this season. Bohlen had a sparkling performance, establishing new outdoor career-best marks in the 200 meters (25.81 seconds), 800 meters (2:25.99), high jump (5 feet, 3 inches, javelin (117-9) and shot put (37-8).
It's the third conference performer of the week honor for Bohlen but her first female athlete of the week award. She received CSC Academic All-America® distinction last year.
Competing at the same meet, Hobart won the men's decathlon last week. His 6,922 points rank him sixth in school history and second in Division III this season. He placed fourth in the decathlon at last spring's NCAA Division III outdoor championships.
