MOUNT VERNON — The Central College men's wrestling team capped off the first half of its season with a 21-18 win over Cornell College Saturday at the Ram Duals.
Central (6-1) also beat the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point 30-6.
The Dutch raced out to a 14-3 lead against the Rams after
Cade Siebrecht (senior, Lisbon) won by fall at 149 pounds. Cornell won four of the next five matches to tie the match at 18-18.
Hayden Hearne (senior, Urbandale) outlasted his opponent in the 285-pound match for a 3-2 overtime decision to seal the match.
Pierre Baldwin (senior, 141 pounds, Chicago, Ill., West Chicago HS) had a pair of technical falls on the day at 141 pounds. Siebrecht also won by major decision against Wis.-Stevens Point.
Christian Stanek (junior, 157 pounds, Cedar Rapids, Xavier HS) had a technical fall win against the Pointers and
Carter West (sophomore, 133 pounds, Burlington, Notre Dame HS) had a major decision.
Abe Bushong (freshman, 174 pounds, Pleasant Hill, Southeast Polk HS) also gave Central a critical four-point major decision against the Rams.
The Dutch are off until hosting the Central Under Armour Invitational on Saturday, January 3.
