PELLA—The Central football team had five players fill six spots on the D3football.com All-Region 5 Teams released Wednesday.
Senior
Ben DeMeulenaere (Chelsea, Belle Plaine HS) was a first team honoree as a special teamer. Defensive tackle
Trent Cakerice (sophomore, Grundy Center) was chosen for the second team. Offensive linemen
Tyler Harms (senior, Bondurant, Bondurant-Farrar HS) and
Maximus Reitano (Grimes, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) were picked for the third team alongside cornerbacks
Gavin Smith (senior, Audubon HS) and DeMeulenaere.
On special teams, DeMeulenaere blocked three kicks this season. He blocked a PAT against Dubuque, a field goal against Dubuque and a punt against Simpson. In addition to a blocked punt against the Storm, he recovered a different blocked punt for a touchdown.
Cakerice had 59 tackles, including 9.5 tackles for loss. He had 7.0 sacks, including 4.0 in the last three games of the season. He forced a fumble, recovered a different fumble and broke-up a pass that was picked off.
Harms, the left tackle, and Reitano, primarily a Center, helped the Dutch offense average 396.9 yards per game. They scored over 32 points a game, scoring 40 offensive touchdowns. In the run game, Central ran for over 180.2 yards per contest.
Smith picked off four passes and broke up nine other attempts, for 13 total passes defended. He made 38 tackles, forced a fumble and recovering another.
As a cornerback, DeMeulenaere had an interception and eight pass break-ups. He piled up 49 tackles, including a season-high 13 against Wartburg.
