SUPERIOR, WIS.— Trailing by 10 with under 10 minutes to play, the Central College men's basketball team won its first game of the season Saturday against the University of Wisconsin – River Falls 68-66.
Central (1-0) led for just 2 minutes and 52 seconds of the game but it wasn't until
Owen Schipper's (sophomore, Waukee) fast break layup with 22 seconds remaining that the Dutch had a lead in the second half.
Schipper led the team with 17 points, playing nearly 35 minutes.
Grant Uecker (sophomore, Urbandale) had 14 points and had a team-high eight rebounds.
Bradey Curren (junior, Harlan) added 11 points and
Alex Ruba (junior, Ames, Gilbert HS) chipped in with 10 more.
Ruba and
Carson Jones (sophomore, Elkhorn, Neb., Creighton Prep) each had three assists as Central had 13 assists as a team on just 24 made field goals.
The Dutch advanced to the NBC Tip Off Classic championships game Sunday at 4 p.m. against Marian University (Wis.).
