PELLA— Central College football defensive lineman
Trent Cakerice (sophomore, Grundy Center) won the American Rivers Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Coe College on Saturday.
Central's defense put on a strong performance, allowing only 13 points, but it was Cakerice specifically who stood out. Cakerice led the team with an impressive 14 total tackles, three of which were solo and 11 of which were assisted. These tackles included three tackles for loss and two sacks. On top of the tackles, Cakerice also logged a pass breakup that resulted in a Dutch interception.
Cakerice set single-game career highs in total tackles, tackles for loss, and sacks on Saturday, putting up a monster performance in the Dutch's season finale.
