Central volleyball team grabs road win at Graceland

Dutch serve up 13 aces in victory

LAMONI — The Central College volleyball team took another step forward Tuesday night a 3-1 (25-22, 25-27, 25-13, 25-13) win at Graceland University Tuesday night.

Central (3-2) battled through the first two sets before sizable margins of victory in the third and fourth sets. Coach Jeanne Czipri said was positive about her team's progress from the opening weekend.

"I'm pleased with the growth we made tonight," she said. "Especially with our serve and passing."

Complete, official statistics were not available after the match but the Dutch notched 13 service aces. Setter Avery Rexroat (junior, Macomb, Ill.) and outside hitter Gracie Pierson (senior, Lake City, Minn.) each had five. Right-side hitter Landry Pacha (sophomore, Wellman, Mid-Prairie HS) was initially credited with 13 kills and outside hitter Paige Sexton (sophomore, Sheridan, Ill., Serena HS) had nine.

"I think our setters did a great job adjusting their play calling and our hitters found ways to terminate against an incredibly scrappy defensive team," Czipri said. "I think our play got cleaner as the match went on."

The Dutch recorded 12 blocks, with sophomore middle hitter Kaitlyn Mumm (Waukee, Des Moines Christian HS) leading the way with five.

Central travels to De Pere, Wisconsin for three matches at the St. Norbert Chick-fil-A Invitational. The Dutch open with an 8 p.m. match Friday against Carroll University (Wis.).
