Central women's soccer team falls in American Rivers Conference opener

Kylie Bloomstrom scores in her third straight game

PELLA— In the first American Rivers game for the Central College women's soccer team, Simpson College comes away with the 3-1 win.

The Dutch (7-4, 0-1 A-R-C) were outshot by Simpson 30-7 and 12-2 with shots on goal. Goalkeeper Zoey Sizemore (sophomore, Omaha, neb., Mercy) collected nine saves.

"We ran into our second top five regionally ranked opponent this week," said coach Mike Kobylinski. "We showed some fight in the second half again but (Simpson) showed their class on their goals."

After being shut out in the first half, the Storm (6-0-3, 1-0 A-R-C) added on to their lead in the 56th minute. Three minutes later midfielder Kylie Bloomstrom (freshman, Forest Lake Minn., Forest Lake Area HS) scored for the third straight match. The goal came on a corner kick and Amber Santana (senior, Indio, Calif., Shadow Hills HS) got the assist.

"We continue to show our resilience as a group," Kobylinski said. "There is great belief and leadership on this team, and this will be a long conference season, and we will be up for the challenge and take it one match at a time.

The squads next match is Saturday when they travel to Dubuque and take on The University of Dubuque at 1 p.m.

"The great part about our league is each week we are going to be challenged," said Kobylinski. "Next week will be no different. We want to get back to being focused on going 1-0 on the day and the task at hand."
