Dutch volleyball team captures two sweeps Saturday

Central increases win total to 13

RIVER FOREST, ILL. — A triangular hosted by Concordia University – Chicago (Ill.) yielded a pair of three-set victories for the Central College volleyball team Saturday.
           
Central (13-5) beat Lawrence University (Wis.) 25-17, 25-20, 25-21 in its first game and then beat the hosts 25-21, 25-10, 25-19.
           
"We got some players back into rhythm today, which was great to see" coach Jeanne Czipri said. "We started the day slow but got our groove going for the second match. We were happy to get back in the win column."
           
Against Concordia, middle hitter Kaitlyn Mumm (sophomore, Waukee, Des Moines Christian HS) had a team-high 10 kills and chipped in three blocks and three service aces. Middle hitter Emma Wagler (senior, Des Moines, Roosevelt HS) also had four blocks in the match.
           
"Mumm and Emma did a great job today, especially blocking," Czipri said. "It was nice to see our right sides get their mojo back."
           
Right-side hitter Kaitlyn Koel (Sioux Falls, S.D., Washington HS) also had nine kills against the host team. Libero Colleen Kenney (junior, Taylor Ridge, Ill., Rock Island Alleman HS) had a team-high 15 digs while setter Makayla Ribble (junior, Iowa City) led the team with 18 assists.
           
Against Lawrence, Landry Pacha (sophomore, Wellman, Mid-Prairie HS) led the team with seven and setter Avery Rexroat (junior, Macomb, Ill.) had 16 assists. Wagler had three more blocks and outside hitter Leslie Snow (junior, Olivia, Minn., BOLD HS) led the team with three service aces. Kenney had 13 digs.
           
The Dutch start American Rivers Conference play next Friday with a 6 p.m. match against Luther College from P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.
