Central volleyball team completes 3-0 weekend at La Crosse

Dutch rally in first set, roll to victory

LA CROSSE, WIS. — The Central College volleyball team secured another unbeaten weekend with a 3-0 sweep of the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse at their tournament Saturday morning.

The Dutch (11-4) started slow but finished with a 26-24, 25-17, 25-22 victory over the Eagles (4-10). Central was trailing 20-13 in the first set before rallying.

"I'm proud of us finding a way to get the win, even though we were off in some areas," coach Jeanne Czipri said. "I loved seeing us make the big comeback at the end of the first set after a terrible start. That was a fantastic effort late in the set.

Freshman Kaitlyn Koel (Sioux Falls, S.D., Washington HS) led the Dutch with eight kills while Gracie Pierson had seven. Setters Makayla Ribble (junior, Iowa City) and Avery Rexroat (junior, Macomb, Ill.) had 15 and 14 set assists apiece.

Defensively, libero Colleen Kenney (junior, Taylor Ridge, Ill., Rock Island Alleman HS) had a team-high 17 digs while middle hitter Emma Wagler (senior, Des Moines, Roosevelt HS) had three blocks.

The Dutch travel to Grinnell College next Friday for a 6 p.m. match.

"We have a really tough Grinnell team Friday," Czipri said. "That will help us get ready for a tough American Rivers Conference schedule. I'm eager to see how we rise to the challenge."
