FULTON, MISSOURI— Starting her second career game and collecting three saves goalkeeper
Josie Farmer (freshman, Nevada) did not allow a goal again leading back-to-back shutouts for the Central College women's soccer team.
Central (5-2) defeated Westminster College (Mo.) (1-3-1) 2-0 Tuesday.
"(Today) was another comprehensive effort from all phases of the game," said coach
Mike Kobylinski. "From the first ten minutes of the game I felt like we settled in and played our brand."
Along with the defense playing tough the offense was able to strike late in the first half when defenseman
Nicole Sinclair (junior, Arvada, Colo., Jefferson Academy) found forward
Josie Newton (sophomore, Pleasant Hill, Southwest Polk HS) who scored her first goal of the season.
"It is nice to get another shutout," said Kobylinski. "It was also nice to score two goals. We are getting a lot of different contributions, and we are a tough team to stop when we are on and wish to be the aggressor."
The Dutch scored their second goal in the 66th minute on a free kick when
Abby Frey (5th-year, Mesa, Ariz., Desert Ridge HS) needed no help and beat the goalkeeper to the top left corner of the cage, also scoring her first goal of the season.
"I want to credit our leadership on this team," Kobylinski said. "As well as everyone from each class on their maturity and ability to be coached and apply those points. Not only from the staff but from their own conversations as well."
The Dutch return to the pitch when they host the University of Wisconsin- River Falls on the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex soccer field Saturday at 4 p.m.
