SIOUX CENTER— The Central College men's soccer team competed with NAIA Dordt University but lost 1-0.
"I think the result is a bit harsh on our guys," coach
Garry Laidlaw said. "I thought we deserved to get something from this match, but Dordt defended really well after they scored. "(The game) amplified the fact that small moments can make the difference in matches, and one lapse proved costly today."
Despite being unable to find the back of the net the Dutch outshot the Defenders 10-7 with six of the shots being on target. Midfielder
Teddy Apostolopoulos (freshman, Pella) led the team in shots on goal with three. The Dutch gave freshman goalkeeper
Morgan Finkenbinder (Elkhorn, Neb., Skutt Catholic) his first collegiate start and he grabbed two saves.
"We need to keep searching for ways to be at our creative best." said Laidlaw. "In the meantime, we got to use this match to experiment with different aspects of our game and we were pleased to get Finkenbinder his first career start. We feel good about our goalkeeping situation."
The squad returns to the field Wednesday when it hosts Augustana (Ill.) at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex soccer field at 5 p.m.
