Central secures volleyball sweep at Clarke

Dutch move to 5-4 on the year

DUBUQUE — The Central College volleyball team bagged another sweep Tuesday night, this time taking out Clarke University in straight sets 25-20, 25-21, 29-27.

The Dutch (5-4) took out the Pride (9-4) by avoiding the errors that plagued them ver the weekend.

"I saw some nice, gritty fight," coach Jeanne Czipri said. "We were significantly cleaner and more aggressive to close out sets, especially the third one."

Central had a .230 hitting percentage on the night, notching 44 kills with just 13 errors on 135 attempts. In the second set, the Dutch had no attack errors and 18 kills.

"It took us a minute to make some adjustments, but once we did, we saw some good things happen," Czipri said.

Setter Makayla Ribble (junior, Iowa City) had a double-double while pacing the team with 21 assists and 15 digs. She also had a team-high three service aces. Outside hitter Paige Sexton (sophomore, Sheridan, Ill., Serena HS) led the way with 12 kills. Middle hitters Emma Wagler (senior, Des Moines, Roosevelt HS) and Kaitlyn Mumm (Waukee, Des Moines Christian HS) each assisted on three blocks.

The Dutch have three matches this weekend at the Monmouth Tournament, starting with a 7 p.m. match Friday night against the Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.).
