PELLA— Central College's Logan Sunvold (senior, Monroe, Southeast Polk HS) is among 40 non-NCAA FBS kickers named to the Fred Mitchell Award preseason watch list.
           
It's the third year in a row that Sunvold, a two-time D3football.com All-Region honoree, has landed on the list. The award is given to a kicker from an NCAA FCS, Division II or Division III squad, or from the NAIA or NJCAA. The selection is based on excellence on the football field and in the community. The award is announced in early December with the trophy presented in February at the Chicago Bears training facility in Lake Forest, Illinois.
           
Sunvold is among 10 Division III players cited.
           
A four-year starter, Sunvold was a first-team all-region pick by D3football.com last year after receiving second-team honors in 2021. He's also a two-time American Rivers first-team all-conference pick and is a six-time conference special teams player of the week honoree. Sunvold has twice received Central's Special Teams MVP Award.
           
Last year Sunvold converted nine of 13 field goal tries and was 54 of 55 on extra point conversions. He notched 17 touchbacks on 68 kickoffs, averaging 59.7 yards. Sunvold holds school records for most PAT's made in a game (12, at Simpson, Sept. 25, 2021) and a season (83, 2021). For his career he's 27-39 on field goals and 199-204 on PAT's.
           
The Dutch open the 2024 campaign at home Sept. 7 against Illinois Wesleyan University.
