PELLA — Setting a new Division III standard so far this year in the 1,500 meters, Central College men's track and field runner
Noah Jorgenson was named the American Rivers Conference Male Athlete of the Week.
He was also named the league's Men's Track Events Performer of the Week. Additionally, the Central College softball team swept the league's awards for Pitcher of the Week and Position Player of the Week from
Emma Beck (sophomore, Holland, Grundy Center HS) and Megan Doty (senior, Grinnell), respectively.
Jorgenson ran the 1500 meters at the Drake Relays, taking third in a time of 3 minutes, 45.40 seconds. That time is the fastest so far this season in Division III while also setting a new school and American Rivers Conference in the event. He also ran the 800 meters, taking sixth in 1:50.60
Central is next competing at the Wartburg Triangular on Friday.
Beck was 2-0 for the Dutch in the circle last week, not allowing a run in 9.0 innings of work. She pitched a complete game five-inning shutout against Luther College on Tuesday and added four scoreless frames in a win over Buena Vista University on Thursday.
Doty paced the Dutch with eight hits and 11 RBI during a 5-1 week in which they outscored their opponents 63-18. She had four RBI in a game two victory at Luther on Tuesday with a double.
The Dutch travel to Nebraska Wesleyan University on Sunday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
