Offensive surge continues for Central softball team

Dutch score 27 runs in 12 innings

STORM LAKE— Outscoring its opponents by a total of 26 runs, the Central College softball team swept a road doubleheader 12-0, 15-1 at Buena Vista University Thursday.

The Dutch (26-7, 11-1 American Rivers Conference) piled up 27 runs with 28 hits, 17 stolen bases and drawing nine walks against the Beavers (7-29, 0-14 conference).

Shortstop Carson Fisk (Searsboro, Lynnville-Sully HS) was 3-for-3 with three RBI in game two. In the second inning, she hit a deep drive to left center field and sprinted around the bases for an inside-the-park home run, the team's second home run of the season.

"Carson had a really good day at the plate," coach George Wares said.

Third baseman Hannah Higgins (sophomore, Macomb, Ill.) also had a 3-for-3 outing, leading the Dutch in both categories for the first game.

Second baseman Haley Bach (junior, Council Bluffs, Lewis Central HS) and designated player/catcher Emma Lenox (junior, Eddyville, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont HS) had two hits in each game, racking up four in the doubleheader. Right fielder Mariah Parton (sophomore, Davenport, Assumption HS) Parton had a team-high four stolen bases on the day.

"We got out running game going again," Wares said. "There was really good stuff from everybody. We did what we needed to do against a weaker opponent."

Sydni Huisman (fifth year, Treynor) was the winning pitcher in the opener, striking out three with two hits allowed in 4.0 innings. Emma Beck (sophomore, Holland, Grundy Center HS) yielded just one hit and one walk as the starting and winning pitcher of the second game, also going 4.0 innings.

"Sydni had good command again," Wares said.
