INDIANOLA — The bats were quiet nearly all game for the Central College baseball team in a 7-0 loss Friday night at Simpson College.
The Storm (14-17, 7-9 American Rivers Conference) raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning against starting pitcher Declan O'Hare (fifth year, Los Angeles, Calif., John Marshall HS). Reliever Andrew Doyle (senior, Bettendorf, Pleasant Valley HS) quieted their offense with two runs, only one earned, over seven innings of work.
"Andrew Doyle has embodied what we are all about," coach Adam Carey said. "The way he competed tonight shows his commitment he has to his teammates and this program."
All four runs charged to O'Hare were earned after four hits and two walks. Boston DeVault (freshman, Greenfield, Nodaway Valley HS) gave up one run on one hit in the eighth inning.
Pinch hitter Colton Jones (senior, Knoxville) had a single in the eighth for Central's (11-18, 5-9 conference) only hit. Storm starting pitcher Trey Castile struck the Dutch out 15 times.
Center fielder Max Steinlage (junior, Cedar Falls) stole a pair of bases.
Central and Simpson continue their series Saturday at 1 p.m. in Indianola.
