LINCOLN, NEB.— The Central College volleyball team surged after a slow start Wednesday night at Nebraska Wesleyan University but still suffered a 25-16, 26-24, 18-25, 26-24 defeat.
The Dutch (16-7, 3-2 American Rivers Conference) had as many errors as they did kills in the first set during a nine-point loss. Central had more kills than the Prairie Wolves (17-6, 4-1 conference) in the second set but lost by two. In fact, the team with the most kills in each of the final three sets dropped the set.
Outside hitter
Gracie Pierson (senior, Lake City, Minn.) led the team with 13 kills while
Kaitlyn Koel (freshman, right-side hitter, Sioux Falls, S.D., Lincoln HS) had eight. Pierson added 14 digs for a double-double
Setters
Avery Rexroat (junior, Macomb, Ill.) and Makayla Ribble (junior, Iowa City) also recorded double-doubles. Rexroat had 13 assists and 14 digs while Ribble had 19 assists and 15 digs. Libero
Colleen Kenney (junior, Taylor Ridge, Ill., Rock Island, Alleman HS) had a team-high 29 digs.
Kaitlyn Mumm (sophomore, Waukee, Des Moines Christian HS) assisted on eight of the team's 10 blocks. Rexroat, Ribble and
Leslie Snow (junior, Olivia, Minn., BOLD HS) each chipped in two service aces.
The Dutch venture out of the league for a Saturday triangular in Jacksonville, Illinois against Lake Forest College (2 p.m.) and Illinois College (4 p.m.).
