Hat trick for Coates in Dutch women’s soccer win

Junior forward tallies a trio

ST. PAUL, MINN. — The goals came early and often for the Central College women's soccer team in a 5-0 romp against the University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.) Wednesday.

It took Grace Coates (junior, forward, Marion) less than seven minutes to get her second brace of the season for Central (2-0-1) with goals at the 2:26 and 6:34 marks. She reached her second-career hat trick at 51:10 with her third goal. She later added an assist on the game's fifth goal.

Central also had goals from Paige Cahill (senior, Castle Rock, Colo., Castle View HS) and Abby Frey (senior, Mesa, Ariz., Desert Ridge HS) in the 46th and 77th minute, respectively. Additionally, Cahill assisted on the second goal by Coates. Amber Santana (junior, Indio, Calif., Shadow Hills HS) had assists on the first two goals of the second half.

"Grace and Paige were clicking again which is great for us," coach Mike Kobylinski said. "We also had some balanced scoring and some gorgeous through balls from Amber and Abby. It's something we worked on with our midfield this week."

It was a homecoming of sorts for midfielder MiMi Pavelka (sophomore, Shakopee, Minn., Holy Family) who was playing in her home state for the second time at Central.

"She was once again solid today," Kobylinski said.

Goalkeepers Zoey Sizemore (freshman, Omaha, Neb., Mercy HS) and Bailey Lester (sophomore, Sioux Falls, S.D., Washington HS) split a shutout. Sizemore made four saves in 67 minutes and Lester made two in 23 minutes.

"I was just as impressed with our defense today," Kobylinski said. "Happy to see our defense garner another shutout."

The Eagles (0-3) were projected to finish second in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.

"We are starting to show our quality," Kobylinski said. "It's very early in the season but the coaching staff likes where we are at and where we are hopefully headed."

The Dutch are back home on Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. match against North Park University (Ill.).
