KIRKSVILLE, MO.— An upperclassmen doubles pairing was the lone winner for the Central College women's tennis team in an 8-1 loss Wednesday against Truman State University.
Paige Farrell (senior, Chariton) and
Kalina Schubert (junior, Newell, Newell-Fonda HS) were 8-5 winners in the No. 3 doubles match to earn their first win of the season.
"They're just tough," coach
Ryun Ferrell said. "It was all business for them right from the start. They did a really great job."
The Dutch rested most of their lineup that played in the first two conference duals, giving the rest of its team an opportunity to play.
"We've got 19 players and some good depth," Ferrell said. "We need to give them all opportunities to play so they can keep improving. It's necessary to the development of our program."
The Dutch host the University of Dubuque at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon and then Loras College Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
"It should be a lot of fun," Ferrell said "They both have new coaches and we'll see what they bring to the table. I think this team is ready to go."
