Central women blanked in conference soccer opener

Dutch offense held scoreless at Simpson

INDIANOLA — Opening up the American Rivers Conference season on the road at Simpson College, the Central College women's soccer team was defeated 3-0.

The Storm (7-1-0, 1-0-0 conference entered the game ranked No. 3 in the region but the Dutch (4-2-3, 0-1-0 conference) dictated the game early, including a Kaitlyn Isom (senior, Phoenix, Ariz., Horizon Honors) shot attempt forcing save just over a minute into the contest.

"We started off the first 15 minutes on fire and did some good things to create and take control," Kobylinski said. "It was what we had discuss and trained for prior to the match."

The Storm found the net twice in the 16th and 17th minute to take control before adding a third tally in the final 10 minutes.

Simpson outshot Central 14-5, with just two of the Dutch shots going on frame. Grace Coates (junior, Marion) had the other shot on goal in addition to Isom's early strike.

"It's still early in the conference season," coach Mike Kobylinski said. "We need to be ready to wash this one and learn our lessons from it. Some things were absent from our attack today and as a staff and a team we want to get it right."

Zoey Sizemore (freshman, Omaha, Neb., Mercy HS)
made three saves while taking the loss in goal.

Central hosts Greenville College (Ill.) in its final non-conference tilt Tuesday at 4 p.m. Greenville won the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 2022.

"We have played four of the last five matches away from home," Kobylinski said. "It will be nice to be at home, but it doesn't get any easier. We must be ready physically and mentally."
