Central suffers two men’s tennis losses

Dutch drop two against in-state schools

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NEBRASKA — The Central College men's tennis team was upended twice on the road Friday, losing a 4-3 neutral site match against Grand View University and a 7-0 defeat by the hosts from Morningside University.

Central slipped to 2-4 on the season. Morningside is 7-2 on the year and Grand View is 1-3. Both matches were played under the NAIA scoring format where the three doubles matches are worth one combined point.
            "
We battled great," coach Ryun Ferrell said. "We played hard against two really good teams and we did some good things."

Nick Scott (junior, Fort Benton, Mont., Great Falls Central Catholic HS) and Matthew Den Adel (senior, Ankeny, Centennial HS) both won their singles matches against the Vikings. Scott was an 8-7 winner at No. 2 singles and Den Adel was a 7-5, 6-0 winner at No. 5 singles.

AJ Wilkins (sophomore, Grinnell) was a winner by forfeit at No. 6 singles against Grand View.

Central still has six non-conference matches before it opens the American Rivers Conference season on March 29 at Nebraska Wesleyan University.
            "
We're going back to the drawing board and cleaning some basics up," Ferrell said. "It's time to start molding this team into something better than it was before."

The Dutch will host St. Ambrose University on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. and then travel to Grinnell College on Saturday at noon.
