Dutch rebound for volleyball victory over Loras

Central takes down conference opponent in straight sets

PELLA — The Central College volleyball team bounced back Saturday morning in a big way to sweep an American Rivers Conference match from Loras College 25-21, 25-17, 27-25.

After being swept Friday night against the University of Dubuque, Central (15-4, 2-1 American Rivers Conference) got back to its winning ways against Loras (8-12, 0-3 conference).

"Before the match today, we reminded the team of some of our more challenging matches when we were resilient and played with a 'next play' mentality." Coach Jeanne Czipri said. "We did that well for the most part today."

"Loras is a good team and made some adjustments, so we had to keep making adjustments. I liked a lot of the things we did. Any conference win is a good win."

Outside hitter Gracie Pierson (junior, Lake City, Minn.) had 12 digs, 10 kills and six service aces to lead the Dutch in all three categories.

"It was awesome to see her rebound after a tough night," Czipri said. "She played some great defense and served it well."

The Dutch had six players with at least five kills, including eight from Leslie Snow (sophomore, Olivia, Minn., BOLD HS) and seven from Gracie Daniels (senior, Broken Arrow, Okla.). Setter Avery Rexroat (sophomore, Macomb, Ill.) finished with 33 assists.

"We have to be able to use everybody," Czipri said. "Not everybody is going to have the best night but we need everybody to be good. Avery did a better job of putting our hitters in better situations and the hitters stayed aggressive."

Elyse Johnson (senior, Kirksville, Mo.) had four solo blocks and assisted on another.

Central travels to Simpson College for a 6 p.m. match Wednesday night.

"Simpson is always a great team," Czipri said. "Playing a rival team is fun and challenging in their own way. We're excited to take them on and we hope to see some people in Indianola."
