ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA —Battling through a sluggish night, the Central College volleyball team outlasted Hamline University (Minn.) 25-17, 14-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-12 on Friday.
The Dutch (15-6) hit .239 (61-16-188) but committed 13 reception errors to leave the door open for the Pipers (4-13).
"Hamline defended us really well," Czipri said. "We really struggled tonight with our first touch defensively and in serve receive. They pushed us in ways we needed to be for us to learn some valuable lessons."
Senior middle hitter
Elyse Johnson (Kirksville, Mo.) had 11 kills on just 23 swings while not making an error. She was also in on three blocks.
"Elyse had herself a night," Czipri said. "I'm glad we found her as much as we did."
Outside hitter
Leslie Snow (sophomore, Olivia, Minn., BOLD HS) had a team-high 16 kills to go with 21 digs.
"Leslie had a slow start," Czipri said. "She eventually worked her way into a really nice match offensively and defensively."
Libero
Colleen Kenney (sophomore, Taylor Ridge, Ill., Rock Island Alleman HS) and setter
Avery Rexroat (sophomore, Macomb, Ill.) both had 24 digs to lead the Dutch. Rexroat's 42 assists also paced Central while securing her eighth double-double of the season.
The Dutch are at North Central University (Minn.) Saturday for a triangular with Lawrence University (Wis.) and North Central starting at 11 a.m.
