DECORAH — A three-goal outburst in the second half pushed the Luther College women's soccer team past Central College 4-1 Tuesday night.
Central (6-3-4, 1-2-1 American Rivers Conference) and Luther (5-5-4, 2-2-1 conference) were tied at 1-1 at the halftime break. The Dutch struck first in the 13th minute on a
Paige Cahill (senior, Castle Rock, Colo., Castle View HS) goal assisted by
Grace Coates (junior, Marion). The Norse equalized in the 37th minute.
"We did well to be tied at half," coach
Mike Kobylinski said. "It was nice goal for Paige in the run of play."
Luther took the lead in the 73rd minute and put the game away with subsequent goals in the 77th and 84th minute.
"Today, we had lapses and were punished," Kobylinski said. "Our composure needs to be better and we lacked some conviction."
Central had a chance to make it 3-2 in the 82nd but an
Alli Seegers (freshman, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock HS) penalty kick was saved and so was the immediate rebound attempt by Seegers.
The Dutch host Wartburg College at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
"We are excited to get back to what we do on Saturday," Kobylinski said. "There are plenty of conference matches left that we are excited about. We'll need to have tenacity at training and a good work rate, which hopefully will translate to the match."
