Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Fourth consecutive soccer shutout for Dutch women

Pavelka scores game-winning goal in home state

ST. PETER, MINN. — A Mimi Pavelka (freshman, midfielder, Shakopee, Minn., Holy Family HS) goal five minutes into the second half was enough for the Central College women's soccer team to secure a 1-0 win at Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) Wednesday afternoon.

The Dutch (5-2-1) also held the Gusties (4-3-1) scoreless to notch a fourth shutout in as many tries. Gustavus Adolphus was a top-four team in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 2021.

"It was a total team win today against a great team in the MIAC," coach Mike Kobylinski said. "You have to be happy anytime you can come up here and get a win."

Pavelka broke a scoreless tie when she corralled an Abby Frey (junior, midfielder Mesa, Ariz. Desert Ridge HS) corner kick and put the ball in the goal.

"Abby played a beautiful corner and Mimi attacked the ball," Kobylinski said. "I don't know what body part she hit it with but she literally flew into the goal with the ball."

It was another outstanding effort in goal by Sheila Horstmann (senior, goalkeeper, West Des Moines, Valley HS) as she made nine saves.

"She managed the game super well," Kobylinski said. "She made some good saves and came off her line. She played like a senior should play."

Kobylinski also cited Grace Coates (sophomore, forward, Marion) for her efforts on the pitch.

"She played a withdrawn forward and did a lot of the dirty work to help us today," Kobylinski said.

The Dutch return home for their final non-conference game of the season Saturday, hosting the University of Wisconsin-Platteville at 2 p.m.

"We're playing a really tough schedule," Kobylinski said. "Each game presents different challenges."
