Three Central athletes receive league honors

McMartin cited in cross country, Bannister, Ketchum take weekly football honors

PELLA—Women's cross country runner Caroline McMartin (junior, Pella), quarterback Brady Ketchum (sophomore, Mount Vernon) and defensive back Cameron Bannister (senior, State Center, West Marshall HS) have received American Rivers athlete of the week honors.
           
McMartin was cited as the runner of the week after winning her second consecutive race of the season Saturday. She placed first in a 93-runner field at the Les Duke Invitational at Grinnell, covering the 6,000-meter course in 22:53.8 to win by 25 seconds. The Dutch won the seven-team meet crown.
           
The squad is off until Friday, Sept. 23 when it competes in the Roy Griak Invitational at Minneapolis.
           
Ketchum is the football offensive player of the week. He completed 19-of-30 passes for 236 yards with one interception and three touchdowns in Central's 31-13 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Saturday.
           
Bannister is the defensive player of the week after picking off two fourth-quarter passes. He also forced a fumble and made eight tackles, including five solos.
           
The Dutch (2-0) are ranked No. 13 in the D3football.com poll and open conference play at home Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium.
