Men's Track and Field

Both Dutch track and field squads, 14 USTFCCCA individuals earn academic awards

PELLA—The Central College men's track and field team earned the All-Academic Team from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association and was joined by the women's team and 14 individual student-athletes in earning academic honors.
           
Under coach Brandon Sturman, the women's squad posted a 3.628 grade point average for the year and earned the team award for the seventh year in a row and 15th time overall. The men topped the 3.100 standard for the first time at 3.127.
           
Eight Central men and six Dutch women were recognized for the individual award. To qualify, an athlete must post a minimum 3.30 GPA and qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship, finish the regular season ranked in the top 50 in an individual event or in the top 35 in a relay event.
           
Will DeHaan (senior, DeWitt, Central HS) achieved the feat for third time in his career. Lucas Heitz (junior, Gallatin, Mo.), Noah Jorgenson (sophomore, Sidney), Carter Tryon (senior, Winterset) and Brody Klein (sophomore, Rainier, Wash.) were all repeat honorees. Theo Baldus (senior, St. Ansgar), Thomas Spoehr (senior, Bennington, Neb.) and Adam Sylvia (junior, Rochester, Mass., Old Rochester HS) were all first-time selections.
           
Central's men have had 42 athletes win the award 65 times.
           
Malory Jones (junior, Fairfield), Krissa Larson (senior, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock HS), Abby Marr (junior, Riceville) and Caroline McMartin (sophomore, Pella) are all repeat winners from 2021. Taryn Hintz (sophomore, Primghar, South O'Brien HS) and Megan Johnson (junior, Parkersburg, Aplington-Parkersburg HS) were first-time honorees.
           
Central's women's program has had 52 athletes gain USTFCCCA all-academic honors 91 times.
