ROCK ISLAND, ILL. — On the road at Augustana College (Ill.) Saturday afternoon, the Central College women's tennis team was defeated 7-2 on the final weekend of the regular season.
The Dutch evened their overall season record at 11-11.
"Augustana came out a little more offensively than we were prepared for and it made it tough at a lot of spots to find any rhythm," assistant coach
Trevor Budewitz said.
In the No. 6 singles spot, freshman
Becca Vala (Omaha, Neb., Elkhorn HS) won in 6-0, 6-0 sweep.
"Becca played a very clean match," Budewitz said. "She fought for every point with focus and determination."
Junior
Ashlynn Brant (Glidden, Carroll HS) had the team's second point, winning 0-6, 6-3, 10-5 at No. 5 singles.
"Ashlynn shrugged off a 6-0 loss in the first set to come back and win in a tiebreaker," Budewitz said. "She did a great job of wearing down her opponent."
The Dutch wrap up the regular season with a dual at Cornell College Sunday at 3 p.m.
