Dutch women rally in second half for soccer victory

Coates, Fisher tally goals in Central win

CHICAGO, ILL. — After a scoreless first half, the Central College women's soccer team found the back of the net twice for a 2-0 win at North Park University (Ill.) Wednesday.

Central (7-2-1) broke the 0-0 draw against the Vikings (3-6-1) in the 59th minute when Grace Coates (freshman, forward Marion) scored for the sixth time this season by following up a Rachel Daniels (junior, forward, Geneseo, Ill.) miss.

"Rachel did an excellent job of creating that goal," coach Mike Kobylinski said. "It was a scramble in the box after the miss and Grace pounced on it, had a quick release and struck it into the net."

Maddi Fisher (sophomore, defender, Marion, Linn-Mar HS) made it 2-0 with her first goal of the season, connecting from range in the 80th minute. She was assisted by Abby Sutberry (sophomore, forward, Lee's Summit, Mo., St. Michael HS).

"Maddi hit it from probably 40 yards out" Kobylinski said. "She pushed up and got it played into her and struck a beautiful upper 90 shot. It was magnificent."

Goalkeeper Jasmyn Bush (sophomore, La Porte City, Union HS) had her fourth shutout of the season while stopping the only Viking shot that came on frame.

Central wrapped its non-conference schedule with the win and match the 2018 team's 7-2-1 start through 10 matches. The Dutch have outscored their opponents 26-5 despite starting just three juniors and one senior in most of their matches.

"I couldn't be happier where we are at as a team," Kobylinski said. "This group of women are doing a phenomenal job of staying together. It's been very pleasing as a coach."

The Dutch are off this weekend before heading into the thick of American Rivers Conference play, starting at Simpson College next Wednesday for a 5 p.m. match.
