STORM LAKE — Putting up a 54-shot barrage, the Central College women's soccer team blasted Buena Vista University 8-0 Wednesday night.
The Dutch (2-4-0, 2-4-0 American Rivers Conference) set season highs in every major offensive category against the Beavers (0-7-0, 0-7-0 conference) with 54 shots and 39 shots on goal. The coaching staff was able to rotate in 23 players throughout the contest.
"We got a lot of people on the scoresheet," coach
Mike Kobylinski said. "It was nice to get a look at some younger players and see them get their first collegiate goals or assists."
Senior forward
Katie Wang (Brooklyn Park, Minn., Park Center HS) got the scoring started in the 11th minute with an assist from midfielder
Jacie Borman (sophomore, Eagan, Minn.).
"It was nice to have Katie score the first goal," Kobylinski said. "She's a captain so I was happy for her to get that first goal. It all just kind of clicked after that."
Six different Central players scored goals in the contest, including two each for
Abby Frey (freshman, midfielder, Mesa, Ariz., Desert Ridge HS) and
Abby Sutberry (freshman, forward, Lee's Summit, Mo., St. Michael HS).
"
Both of the Abby's helped set the tempo," Kobylinski said.
Forward
Rachel Daniels (sophomore, Geneseo, Ill.) had a goal and an assist in the first half. Defensive midfielder
Bridget Lynch (sophomore, Northglenn, Colo., Jefferson Academy) scored on a penalty kick and assisted
Emmy Drake's (freshman, midfielder, Wilton) goal in the second half.
Freshman
Jasmine Trinidad (midfielder, Las Vegas, Nev., Sierra Vista HS) assisted both of Sutberry's goals.
Central closes out the spring season by hosting Luther College Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
