Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Dutch men win third straight match

Central now two games over .500

LINCOLN, NEB. — A long road trip did not stop the Central College men's tennis team as it routed Nebraska Wesleyan University 8-1 Saturday afternoon.

Driving over 225 miles in the morning before a noon match only slowed the Dutch (4-2, 4-2 American Rivers Conference) down a little before racing to a big victory over the Prairie Wolves (1-5, 1-5 conference).

"Once we got out feet under us, we played really well," coach Ryun Ferrell said. "To drive to Lincoln in the morning to play is not easy. We got the blood flowing and everything started clicking."

Tanner Finken (junior, Carroll)
was the only Central player to not win his singles match in straight sets, earning a 6-2, 3-6, 10-3 decision in the No. 3 slot. Finken and Ethan St. John (senior, Crystal Lake, Ill., Central HS) also played a long No. 3 doubles match before winning 8-7 (7-2)

"His opponent picked up his level after the first set," Ferrell said. "Tanner took care of business in the breaker. I was really proud to see him do that today."

Central swept the six singles matches, led by William Isiminger's (senior, North Aurora, Ill., West Aurora HS) 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 1. David Boschma (senior, Olathe, Kan., Northwest HS) was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 3 and Brad DiLeo (junior, Iowa City, West HS) triumphed 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4. St. John topped his No. 5 opponent 6-2, 6-1 and Trey Melvin (sophomore, Lawrence, Kan., Free State HS) won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6.

"It's a good day when you can take care of business like we did," Ferrell said. "Nebraska Wesleyan is a young team and they're tough."

Boschma and Melvin also won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.

The Dutch go to Dubuque next Sunday for matches against Loras College and the University of Dubuque.
