MILWAUKEE, WIS. — Competing at the 17-team MSOE Invitational Saturday, the Central College wrestling team's fourth-place finish was highlighted by
Brock Beck's (sophomore, Grinnell) individual title at 141 pounds.
The Dutch finished with 80 points, Augsburg University (Minn.) had a winning total of 149.5 pounds. Central was fourth even without starters
Shandon Akeo (senior, 125 pounds, Honolulu, Kapolei HS) and
Rob Areyano (senior, 149 pounds, Selma, Calif.) for the weekend. Both are ranked in the top-10 at their weight classes.
"It was a really solid day overall with a highly competitive field," coach
Eric Van Kley said.
Beck went 5-0 with a pair of first-period falls en route to his championship. He had 12-4 major decision over Gabe Pugh of the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire in the final.
"He was dominant in the finals," Van Kley said
Gage Linahon (sophomore, 197 pounds, Newton) was a third-place finisher after achieving a 6-1 mark. He had a victory by fall and a major decision before winning his last two matches by forfeit after his opponents had reached their maximum number of matches in a day.
Samuel Zook (senior, Oak Harbor, Wash.) was 4-2 at 285 pounds placing fourth and
Duncan Delzell (sophomore, Burlington) was 4-2 at 149 pounds to take fifth.
"It was a very long and challenging tournament," Van Kley said. "But we are learning to persevere and be more offensive."
Central has a dual at Nebraska Wesleyan University Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. for its final competition before Christmas break.
"We're excited to finish strong before break," Van Kley said.
