PELLA —
Rob Areyano (sophomore, 149 pounds, Selma, Calif.) and
Duncan Lee (senior, 285 pounds, Newton) were the only bright spots for the No. 20 Central College wrestling team as it was rolled 41-9 against No. 3 Loras College.
The Duhawks (8-1, 2-0 American Rivers Conference) won eight of 10 matches with bonus points over the Dutch (10-3, 1-2 conference).
Areyano needed just two minutes and 27 seconds to pick up a six-point fall against Mason McMillen. Areyano is 13-1 on the season with six wins by fall.
"He's great at attacking on going for the pin on tonight," coach
Eric Van Kley said. "He was very aggressive tonight and is continuing to wrestle at a high level."
Lee was holding a 3-2 lead against Wyatt Wriedt in the third period and managed a final takedown to seal a 5-3 decision. It was win No. 20 on the season for Lee.
"Duncan has really led us throughout the year," Van Kley said. "He's really closed duals out well for us. It was nice on a tough night to finish on a high note."
Central returns home next Saturday to host the American Rivers Conference duals. The team will face Buena Vista University, University of Dubuque and No. 1 Wartburg College.
"We're going to work hard and respond," Van Kley said. "It wasn't our best effort tonight. The great thing is we get a chance to bounce back and have some good challenges. We'll be prepared and ready to go."
