Game Recap: Volleyball |

Matches in Oregon go against Central women

FOREST GROVE, ORE.—Facing a pair of talented teams at the Oregon Trail Classic Friday, the Central College volleyball squad dropped a pair of matches against Willamette University (Ore.) and Pacific University (Ore.).

In the opener against Willamette, Central fell in straight sets 25-19, 25 -23, 25-21. Against the Boxers, Central was strong in the first two sets before falling 25-22, 24-26, 25-12, 25-14.

"In the first match we played pretty tight and safe," coach Jeanne Czipri said. "We lacked some grit and competiveness in our play and behaviors.

"We definitely learned from the first match. We started to show more of the little things we need to do to have a great season and find success."

Central had a player with double-digit kills in both contests, Krissa Larson (sophomore, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock HS) had 11 against Willamette and Ruth Hruska-Kelly (sophomore, Brookfield, Ill., Riverside-Brookfield HS) recorded 10 against Pacific.

Ashley Moore (sophomore, Riverside, Ill., Riverside-Brookfield HS)
led the team with 15 assists against Pacific in the second game.

Central moves down the road to Portland tomorrow for matches against Lewis & Clark College and Linfield College.

"This weekend is a great opportunity for us to really play with our lineup," Czipri said. "We'll get some different looks and figure out what works and what doesn't"
