Double overtime soccer draw for Dutch women

Manion notches 10th goal of season

PELLA — Ending a frustrating four-game losing streak, the Central College women's soccer team notched a 1-1 tie against the University of Dubuque on Saturday.

The tie gives the Dutch (5-6-2, 0-3-1 American Rivers Conference) their first point in the conference standings. It was the Spartans (9-3-1, 2-1-1 conference) first tie of the season.

Held scoreless during Central's four-game losing streak, forward Erin Manion (senior, Delafield, Wis., Kettle Moraine HS) picked up her 10th goal of the season in the 24th minute.

"When Erin gets isolated one on one, not many people in this league can stop her," Kobylinski said. "She tucked it away with her left foot off a nice through ball."

Midfielder Jacie Borman (freshman, Eagan, Minn) was credited with her eighth assist on Manion's goal.

"Jacie had a couple of nice services," Kobylinski said.

Making the second start of her career, goalkeeper Leann Grandia (sophomore, West Des Moines, Valley HS) made two saves in the full 110 minutes between the pipes.

"We're pleased with LeAnn," Kobylinski said. "She leads really well and gets a lot of support from our goalkeeper crew."

Kobylinski also cited midfielders Bridget Lynch (freshman, Northglenn, Colo., Jefferson Academy), Elise Askelsen (senior, Indianola) and defender Cate Christopherson (junior, Omaha, Neb., North HS) for their performances.

The Dutch travel to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. match against the Warhawks (7-4-2).

"We have a tougher non-conference schedule this year to prepare us for matches like today," Kobylinski said. "Whitewater will be a solid team."
