Central drops home volleyball match

Gaszynski and Dilger tally 11 kills each

PELLA — Freshman outside hitter Natalie Gaszynski (Huntley, Ill.) and senior right-side hitter Erin Dilger (Tinley Park, Ill., Lincoln Way North HS) both had double-digit kills but the Central College volleyball team was defeated 26-24, 25-12, 21-25, 25-14 by Coe College Saturday afternoon.

The Kohawks pulled their record even at 12-12 (3-1 American Rivers Conference) while the Dutch fell to 13-8 (1-4 conference).

Gaszynski and Dilger both had 11 kills for Central. Gaszynski had the better hitting percentage at .526 (11-1-19) while Dilger still had a .296 percentage (11-3-27).

"Erin found a way to try and build up her team to compete," Czipri said.

Libero Landry Luhring (sophomore, Grundy Center) led the team with 15 kills but Czipri was also impressed with defensive specialist's Brooke Caves's (senior, Oskaloosa) nine digs in two sets

"I think Brooke came off the bench and really lit a fire under us," she said.

Hana Edgerton (senior, middle hitter, Grundy Center) added two blocks and outside hitters Ruth Hruska-Kelly (sophomore, Riverside, Ill., Riverside-Brookfield HS) and Krissa Larson (sophomore, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock HS) both had nine kills.

"We've got the tool box full of tools," Czipri said. "We've just got to use them and be disciplined with them."

Central plays its third-straight home conference match on Wednesday night against Luther College. The match will start at 7:30 p.m. inside P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.

"We've got to point fingers at ourselves and figure out what we need to do in order to be a more consistent and disciplined team," Czipri said. "We need to figure out how we can make the changes to be the team that shows up in the gym every day and battles like we did in the third set today."
