Dutch women’s soccer team taken down at home

PELLA — The Central College women's soccer team was upended in the final home match of the season 2-0 Saturday afternoon by Luther College.

The Norse (5-7-3, 5-2-0 American Rivers Conference) got two first half goals and that's all they needed to beat Central (10-5-1, 4-3-0 conference).

"Luther was a good side," coach Mike Kobylinski said. "They finished their opportunities. I am hopeful we can bounce back and put forth the type of effort and execution to compete."

Cate Christopherson (sophomore, Omaha, Neb. North HS) had both of Central's shots on goal, firing off three total shots. Forward Erin Manion (junior, Delafield, Wis., Kettle Moraine HS) also had two shots.

Kobylinski cited midfielders Olivia Stoops (senior, Morton, Ill.) and Anna Tillo (freshman, West Burlington, Notre Dame HS) for their efforts.

"I felt Olivia Stoops had one of the best matches of her career along with Anna Tillo." he said.
Going the full 90 minutes in goal, keeper Taylor Golt (sophomore, Crystal Lake, Ill., Prairie Ridge HS) picked up seven saves.

The Dutch will travel to Loras College Tuesday night for the regular-season finale against the Duhawks at 5 p.m.

"It doesn't get any easier going to Loras," Kobylinski said. "We will push together as a unit and try to compete hard for 90 minutes.

With 12 points in the league standings, Central is likely settled in as the No. 5 seed for the conference tournament.

"At the end of the day, we've already qualified for the conference tournament in a very competitive league. We need to keep fine tuning our game plan together. I think this team can be special and we've shown flashes. We are hoping to improve as we best as we can and control what we can control."
