STORM LAKE — Some days, the shots just do not fall.
It was one of those days for the Central College women's basketball team as it fell to Buena Vista 56-37 Saturday afternoon.
The Dutch held Buena Vista (8-5 overall, 4-0 conference) to 56 points, 14 points below its season average, however Central (8-5 overall, 1-3 Iowa Conference) shot 21.4% from the field in the defeat.
"We executed extremely well defensively today," said coach
Chelsea Petersen. "Unfortunately, we struggled offensively. Shooting 20% is not a foundation to be successful offensively. Our players were able to get quality looks at the rim, we simply didn't convert."
The Dutch were led by sophomore forward
Claire Marburger (Perry) with 13 points, eight rebounds and added five blocks. Junior guard
Emily Dine (Oldsmar, Fla., East Lake HS) added six points and collected three rebounds and freshman forward
Kendall Brown (Moravia) had seven rebounds off the bench.
The Beavers won the rebound battle 52-47 and shot 30.4% from the field.
Central continues league play Wednesday when it hosts Loras College for a women's-men's doubleheader with the women tipping off at 6 p.m. at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. The Duhawks are 7-7 and 1-4 in conference coming off a 71-66 victory over Simpson College Saturday. Central dropped both bouts with Loras last season.
