PELLA — The Central College volleyball team could not overcome a two-set deficit against Nebraska Wesleyan 25-15, 26-24, 22-25, 20-25, 15-11.
A slow start plagued the Dutch losing the opening two sets for the sixth time this season.
"Being down 0-2 was tough, but we've also come back and won from that position," said coach Kent Clayberg.
Rallying the Dutch, outside hitters Kylie Gerstein (junior, Iowa Falls, Iowa Falls-Alden HS) and Melissa Miller (sophomore, Williamsburg) provided 14 and 13, respectively. SettersMadison Egger (junior, Lincoln, Neb., Southwest HS) and Chapel Carter (sophomore, Colorado Springs (Colo.), Coronado HS) quarterbacked the offense assisting on 27 and 22, respectively.
With home openers, energy is always a factor according to Clayberg.
"Playing in front of the home crowd for the first time had the women feeling the adrenaline," said Clayberg. "The emotions that come with sports is great, we will need to do a better job of controlling those into a better start."
The Dutch head to Lisle, Ill. for the Iowa Conference- Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Crossover Tournament Friday. First up for Central will be Aurora University (Ill.) at 1 p.m. and later Friday night will be Benedictine University (Ill.) at 5 p.m.
