PLATTEVILLE, WIS. — The Central College volleyball team dropped the opening match of the Wis.-Platteville tournament despite a strong offensive performance from middle hitter Jenna Dille (junior, Carlisle).
Central (10-10 overall) fell to the tournament host University of Wis.-Platteville (8-16 overall) 25-18, 27-25, 18-25, 25-21. Dille led the Dutch with 14 kills on 27 attacks.
The Dutch were slated to play Carthage College (Wis.) later on Friday night but results were unavailable.
Middle hitter Emily McDonald (junior, Orange City, MOC-Floyd Valley HS)joined Dille with double-figure kills totaling 10. The tandem combined for 24 of the team's 48 kills.
Setters Regan Nelson (senior, Pella)and Chapel Carter (sophomore, Colorado Springs, Coronado HS)tallied 40 assists; 24 and 16 respectively. Libero Nicole Ewoldt (senior, Hull, Boyden-Hull HS)anchored the Dutch defense with 20 digs.
Outside hitter Kylie Gerstein (junior, Iowa Falls, Iowa Falls-Alden HS) had a near double-double compiling 17 digs and nine kills.
The Dutch continue play Saturday at 10 a.m. against Northland College (Wis.) and 2 p.m. against Augustana College (Ill.).
