Charlie Gaer
Des Moines, Iowa
Class of 2024
Why did you chose Central?
I chose Central for the small class sizes, having that opportunity for more one-on-one time with the professors, and I could play golf at the collegiate level.
Favorite professor and why?
All the professors I’ve had so far have been awesome! It’s hard to say which one is my favorite, I’ve gotten to know them all. Â
You’re majoring in communication studies because?
I’m majoring in communications because there’s so many different directions in the workspace I can go with that major. And I’m excited for the future courses that Central has to offer.Â
Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?
InterVarsity
Who are your go-to musical artists?
Gunna and Post Malone are the top ones but, in the summertime, you can never go wrong with Morgan Wallen or Zac Brown Band.
How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?
Attending Central along with playing golf has taught me the importance of time management and being dedicated on the course or classroom will pay off in the future.   Â
What’s the hardest part about being a left-handed golfer?
Having to order a lot of my clubs or gloves through my golf course back home or through coach. Not every store or pro shop has a grand selection of left-handed club’s vs right-handed clubs.Â
Â
Which of the four majors would you most want to attend?
Hands down The Masters! Due to the fact the strength and patience it takes to come out of that tournament on top is incredible, and Augusta is such a pure golf course.Â
Favorite hole and toughest hole at Bos Landen?
My favorite hole is #9, because it’s a simple straight forward par 4. Compared to my least favorite hole which is #14 because it’s a par 5 that you must lay up twice before going for the green, and the green is tough to read.
Favorite sport to play besides golf?
Football
Favorite TV Show
Either the Office or Breaking Bad both great shows.
What’s it like to play for Coach Blasi?
Playing for Coach Blasi is awesome! He is very knowledgeable about the game coming from 20-years of coaching at a Division 1 school, always has great stories, and his office door is always open and I can always count on a bag of popcorn while we talk.
What’s your favorite part about being a member of the men's golf team at Central College?
Being a part of the Central Men’s Golf Team has been a treat from the trip we just took to Scotland, to the competition on the course, and on the ping pong table.
What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?
Having a really fun job I enjoy while also pursuing the game of golf.Â
Favorite food from Central Market
Has to be the CTO Burgers! You can never go wrong with a good old burger and French Fries.Â
