Why did you chose Central?
I chose central mainly because it is one of the only small colleges in Iowa that has a four-year engineering degree. I also liked that Pella is under two hours from home and Coach Fuller also seemed like a great Coach and down to earth.
Favorite professor and why?
Viktor Martisovits because he is super enthusiastic about learning and always has interesting questions to ask if you see him outside of class.
You’re majoring in engineering because?
I am majoring in engineering because I enjoy creating solutions to new problems and also finding better ways to do what we already can do.
Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?
I am also involved in FCA and children’s ministry at third church.
Who are your go-to musical artists?
I like to listen to For King and Country and also Mozart.
How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?
I feel like it has helped me to learn how to manage time well and work hard while having fun. Also, I have met friends in and out of sports that I hope to stay in touch with for a long time to come.
Favorite part of the multis that you didn’t get to do in high school
Honestly, pole vault is pretty fun because it’s so different than anything I’ve ever done before so it’s really easy to see your progress.
Favorite professional sports team
I like the Chicago Bears the most but I also follow the Bulls pretty closely.
Best Central track and field memory?
Last year at the indoor conference meet, we got third as a team and I think we were supposed to get fifth so that was pretty fun to jump ahead of Nebraska Wesleyan and Dubuque.
What sport would you play if you weren’t doing track
If I had to play a different sport in college, I’d probably play basketball because I enjoyed it a lot in high school.
Favorite TV Show
The office is my favorite show by far, but I am watching the blacklist right now and that might take a close second.
What’s it like to compete for Coach Sturman?
There was a meet once where Coach Fuller couldn’t watch me in pole vault because he had to be at high jump so Coach Sturman stepped in and I am very thankful that he is willing to help any way he can. Coach Fuller always takes our input into account when he is planning what to do for practice or entries in meets which is really nice too.
What’s your favorite part about being a member of the men’s track and field at Central College?
Honestly, my favorite part is that I have met so many people that I never would have known so well before and I am very thankful for that.
What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?
Hopefully I will be working at an engineering firm in the Des Moines area and have a family started 10 years from now.
Favorite food from Central Market
I really like the create your own BLTs. You know it’s a good day if there are BLTs for dinner.
Bucket list
I want to visit every state in the U.S., run a marathon, and learn to surf.
