Flaherty took over as Athletics Communications Director in June of 2024. He previously served as the assistant athletics communications director at Central College for eight years )2016-2024). Before that he was a post-graduate intern with the department for the 2014-15 school year. He also spent three years as a student worker in the office before graduating in 2014.
A Burlington, Iowa native, he has been a member of the College Sports Communicators since 2014. He is responsible for nominating Dutch student-athletes for the CSC Academic All-America program. In his 11 years, Central athletes have received Academic All-America honors 31 times. He attended his first CSC Unite Convention in June of 2025 in Orlando, Florida.
In 2023, he became the American Rivers Conference representative on the Associated Press Division III All-American teams for football.
